10. Ruslana Korshunova
Ruslana Korshunova was a Kazakh supermodel that had a Russian heritage. She established herself as a rising figure in the fashion industry by posing for magazines like Vogue and designers such as Vera Wang and Nina Ricci. Korshunova’s death, which was ruled a suicide, became a longtime controversial subject of international attention. On June 28, 2008, she died after falling from the ninth-floor balcony of her apartment at 130 Water Street in Manhattan’s Financial District. Police stated there were no signs of a struggle in her apartment and concluded that Korshunova’s death was an apparent suicide, although no suicide note was found.
9. Laurie Bird
Laurie Bird was an American actress and photographer. In 1979, she committed suicide by taking an overdose of Valium in the apartment she shared with Garfunkel in New York. At Bird’s funeral, her father revealed that her mother’s death, which was thought to be from ovarian cancer, was also a suicide. Garfunkel referred to his relationship to Bird in the liner notes of his 1988 album Lefty. She was briefly featured in the 2006 documentary film Wanderlust.

Viveka Babajee was a Mauritian model and actress. She held the titles of Miss Mauritius World 1993 and Miss Mauritius Universe 1994. She was best known for her KamaSutra condom advertisements of the 1990s, and for her involvement in the Metro Manila Film Festival scam of 1994. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her apartment on 25 June 2010 at her Bandra residence in Mumbai. Apparently different reasons are being cited for her suicide from breakdown in professional career, failed love relationship to financial losses. Police reports stated that she committed suicide due to depression.
7. Nafisa Joseph
Nafisa Joseph was an Indian model and MTV video jockey. She was the winner of Miss India Universe 1997 and was a semi-finalist in the Miss Universe 1997 pageant in Miami. Joseph hanged herself in her flat in Versova on 29 July 2004. She was to marry businessman Gautam Khanduja in a few weeks’ time. According to her parents, Joseph took the step because her marriage was called off. This was due to Joseph having discovered that Khanduja was still married, although having told her he had been divorced for two years.
6. Kuljeet Randhawa
Kuljeet Randhawa was an Indian actress and model. The former Gladrags model was best known for her role in the Kohinoor series. Randhawa also appeared in several television series including Hip Hip Hurray, C.A.T.S., and a lead role in STAR One’s Special Squad. On 8 February 2006, Randhawa hanged herself at her apartment in Juhu, a suburb of Mumbai. In a suicide note, Kuljeet stated that she was ending her life as she was unable to cope with life’s pressures. Shortly before her death, she had completed filming for the movie By Chance.
5. Lucy Gordon
Lucy Gordon was a British actress and model. She became a face of CoverGirl in 1997 before starting an acting career. Her first film was Perfume in 2001 before going on to have small roles in Spider-Man 3, Serendipity and The Four Feathers. Gordon had played the actress and singer Jane Birkin in the film Gainsbourg, a biopic of singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg. Before the film was released, she was found hanged in her flat in Paris on 20 May 2009 after committing suicide, just two days before her 29th birthday.

Silk Smitha, was an Indian film artiste who worked predominantly in the South Indian films. She entered the industry as an extra actress and first got noticed for her role as “Silk” in the 1979 Tamil film Vandichakkaram. She became the most sought-after erotic actress in the early 1980s. She was found dead on the morning of September 23, 1996 in her home in Saligramam near Chennai, hanging by a rope from the ceiling fan in her bedroom. In a suicide note that she had written in Telugu, she claimed that continual failure in life had led to frustration and made her take this drastic step. Vidya Balan’s The Dirty Picture was loosely based on the life of Silk Smitha.

Divya Om Prakash Bharti was an Indian film actress who was hailed as “the most interesting young actress of her generation”. She worked in a number of commercially successful Hindi, Telugu and Tamil films in the early 1990s. The tragic end of the 19-year old Divya, who had fallen from the window of her fifth floor apartment around midnight on 5th April, 1993 still stays as one of the most shocking deaths ever. Whether the promising actress committed suicide or met an accidental death still remains a mystery.

The actress who became the sex symbol of Hollywood was found dead at the age of 36 in her Los Angeles home early on the morning of August 5, 1962. Like many famous celebrities, ‘overdose of pills’ was claimed as the reason for her sudden death. Monroe’s “acute barbiturate poisoning” was listed as a “probable suicide,” but many people believe that it was an accidental overdose or even a murder. The mystery surrounding her death continues to haunt her fans.
1. Jiah Khan
Born as Nafisa Khan on 20 February 1988 into a Muslim family in New York City. She grew up in London, before moving to Mumbai to pursue a career in Bollywood. She changed her name to Jiah Khan before making her debut in Nishabd in 2007, and then appeared in the 2008 film Ghajini. She made her third and last film appearance in Housefull in 2010. In 2012, she changed her name back to Nafisa Khan. On 3 June 2013, she was found dead in her apartment in Sagar Sangeet building in Juhu, Mumbai after hanging herself. Khan lived along with her mother in a first floor apartment in Sagar Sangeet building.
